“Christians must break the cycle of the oppressed becoming the oppressor.”

March 24, 2014

Since a few days prior to the March 19 death of Westboro Baptist Church’s Fred Phelps, it seems every blogger and every social network poster has had something to say about his life, death, and/or legacy.

This Washington Post commentary, written by Phil Griffen, is the only one I’ve seen written by someone who actually encountered him. Griffen, a lay MCC leader in the hometown of the Westboro Baptist Church (Topeka, Kansas), writes in amazing compassion and grace.

Reminds me a little of a certain Nazarene.
