Feminism Is: Naomi Klein— Confronting Capitalism

December 19, 2014

Maybe money is not the root of all evil, as the saying goes.  But our blindness to the evils of capitalism has had some pretty disastrous results.

Journalist, syndicated columnist, and author, Naomi Klein, has spent her career looking deeply at our capitalist system, and she has found many reasons to be troubled by what she has seen. Yet she also believes our current problems, if handled with an eye to the future, could help us develop a more just system.

Her latest book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate, argues that our economic model is “waging war on life on earth.”  It’s not the carbon as much as it is the capitalism. Visit the book’s website.  Watch the book trailer.

Her previous (second) book, The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, was published in 2007 with more than a million copies now in print.  It’s been turned into a documentary.  Watch the trailer.

“Klein became an outspoken feminist activist at college, campaigning on issues of media repre- sentation and gender visibility that constituted feminism at the end of the 80s.” Listen to Klein tell the story on YouTube.

Lē Weaver identifies as a non-binary writer, musician, and feminist spiritual seeker. Their work draws attention to: the ongoing trauma experienced by women and LGBTQIA people in this “Christian” society; Christ/Sophia’s desire that each of us move deeper into our own practice of non-violence; and the desperate need to move away from an androcentric conception of God.
