Why Hearing “I’m Gay” Changed My Straight, Christian Life

January 11, 2014

Author and masterful story-teller Emily Timbol recounts and reflects on the moment her long-time friend told her he was gay.  They had been close friends for years, since high school, and she was hurt that he had not told her before.  It was in part because she was so religious, he said, and she had to ask herself honestly, “How would I have reacted, raised by Focus on the Family and conservative Christian beliefs? Ones explaining homosexuality as a sickness in need of a cure, a perversion fixed with prayer . . .?”

A captivating and beautifully told story.
