No Name-Calling Week

January 22, 2014

This week, January 20-24, has been designated as “No Name-Calling Week.”

Inspired by the young adult novel The Misfits, the movement was begun to combat bullying in schools.  Sponsors hope “No Name-Calling Week” will provide a good opportunity for teachers to dialogue with their students about bullying issues.

Perhaps it also provides a good opportunity for all of us to consider the labels we use within our own tribes when referring to groups we find annoying.  Here’s a challenge!  Let’s all try to go a week without referring to others by any such labels.
