At Least It’s a Start — Southern Baptist Women Protest Paige Patterson’s Misogynistic Comments

May 14, 2018

In a move that surprised many, thousands of Southern Baptist women signed an open letter to the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Board of Trustees protesting comments made by Dr. Paige Patterson, seminary president and prominent figure in the Southern Baptist Convention.

Southern Baptists practice a very patriarchal form of Christianity, complete with a belief in complementarianism, a prohibition against women’s ordination, and anti-LGBTQ policies.

It is encouraging, that even within this group, some women feel sufficiently empowered by the #MeToo movement to openly protest statements objectifying women and failing to recognize the serious danger faced by those experiencing violence in the home.
