Trans Issues are Feminist Issues

Meredith Talusan writing for The Nation:

“The failure to make the connection—to see the plight of cisgender and transgender women as one and the same—sends a clear message: Trans women are not real women. To frame violence against trans women only as an LGBT issue is itself a form of transphobia, depriving women … of the very identity they fought and died for.”

We’ve seen it.  Feminist women ignoring transgender women to keep them out of the movement.  Feminist women creating “women born women” only spaces.  Feminist women keeping silent on the pervasive violence against transwomen.  How does it serve feminism to marginalize a person who have chosen to struggle mightily in a quest to become a woman?
