Don’t Even Think About It!

“… in a recent interview with ThinkProgress, Greg Jao, an InterVarsity vice president and director of campus engagement, confirmed that InterVarsity does, in fact, plan to fire individuals who say that their faith supports same-sex marriage.”  Read more here.

LGBTQ people like me often suffer denigration and discrimination at the hands of people who identify as Christian.  But apparently, now that we are beginning to gain certain civil rights protections, just trying to make our lives miserable isn’t enough.  Now, some conservative Christian organizations are ramping up their discrimination against heterosexual people who simply think we are deserving of the same rights as other people, and deserving of an equal place within the body of Christ.

Look, I don’t believe that most Christians who discriminate against us want to make our lives, and the lives of our allies, miserable.  But I do believe they are trying everything possible to isolate from us, and from the people who have realized that we are made in the divine image, and are beloved children of God, just the way we are.  Why?  Because it’s very difficult to maintain a prejudicial outlook, and ignore the humanity and Christian dignity of a group of people when one must frequently interact with members of the group and the people who support them.
