Jennifer Finney Boylan: “I’m all done explaining my humanity.”

March 10, 2017

Jennifer Finney Boylan has a few words for the cisgendered people who think they know all about the trans experience.  From her article:

“Another week, another clever “think piece” by someone who feels it does the world a real service to explain why transgender people aren’t who they say they are; or aren’t entitled to the same fundamental kindness and decency you’d accord any other soul; or who have yet another brand new crazy-ass theory about why their own fears and ignorance about us can be forgiven.”

And later in the piece, perhaps one of my favorite lines of all time:

“If your crazy-ass theory of the world doesn’t ease the suffering of people whom you do not understand, maybe what you actually need is a new theory.”

Oh, and if anyone is looking for a novel theory of the world, here’s one I suggest:

“Beloved, we should love each other, because love is of Godde, and everyone who loves has been born of Godde and knows Godde. Whoever doesn’t love doesn’t know Godde, because Godde is love.”  (I John 4:7-8 DFV)
